Line shutters MixRadio music app 14 months after buying it from Microsoft

Mobile messaging giant Line has announced that it’s shuttering MixRadio, the music-streaming service it acquired from Microsoft 14 months ago. MixRadio was initially developed by Nokia way back in 2007, though over the years, it has been known under various names, such as Nokia Music and Nokia MixRadio. The service was taken over as part of Nokia’s $7 billion acquisition by Microsoft in 2014, but given that it already had its own music service in the form of Xbox Music, Microsoft offloaded MixRadio to Japan’s Line later that year. Having previously been absent from Android and iOS, Line finally launched apps for the dominant mobile platforms last summer, in the hope of gaining traction around the world. But alas, it seems the party’s over after less than a year as a cross-platform service. For the uninitiated, Line rose to prominence back in 2011 for its WhatsApp-style messaging app. Today, it claims north of 200 million...

Samsung Gear S2 Review.

The smartwatch concept isn't exactly new anymore, but it's not every day that you see one out in the wild. This might be because a lot of people believe that watches need not be smart, while others see them as expensive toys that might be a lot of fun to have, but that no one really needs. Either way, we still get a lot of attention when people spot our fancy smartwatches, and it's usually interesting looking at the curiosity on people's faces. Although there have been plenty of launches by smaller companies, such as the Intex iRist and Wickedleak Alpha, the market is still dominated by Pebble, Android Wear, the Apple Watch, and Samsung's Gear range of devices. Predominantly Tizen-powered, the Gear range is responsible for some truly innovative and path-breaking products, including the Samsung Gear Live and original Galaxy Gear. Up next from the Korean electronics giant is the new Samsung Gear S2, which was launched alongside the Gear S2 Classic. Running on T...

LG G5 Design, Price Tipped; 'Lite' Variant Hits Benchmark Site

Less than a week before its MWC 2016 keynote event, LG G5 has been leaked in its full glory. The handset has been leaked in three images, and has supposedly been seen by a tipster Evan Blass. The handset's 'Lite' version is also said to have passed GFXBench benchmarking website. A user is apparently trying to sell the alleged LG G5 before its actual launch in Dubai via an e-commerce website called Dubizzle. The seller has also uploaded three images showing the smartphone's front and back panel. The post adds that the handset comes with a valid IMEI and is in its original packing. The G5 is listed with a price tag of AED 2,500 (roughly Rs. 46,500). The images (seen above) and the handset they show still however remain questionable. The LG G5 in the images seems to sport an all-metal body like rumoured before. Interestingly, the back panel now has a different layout. A dual-camera setup is seen positioned horizontally, with LED flash an...

Cyber-Security Remains a 'Pain Point' for Most Organisations: Survey

Cyber-security remains a "pain point" for a majority of organisations as they are struggling to find solutions and adding to their woes is the dearth of talent in this segment, says a global survey of senior IT managers. According to the survey by Experis, ManpowerGroup's professional resourcing and project-based solutions arm, it is no longer a question of whether information security breaches will happen, it is a question of "when" and "how much". "As organisations grapple to find solutions, they now face a widening security talent shortage that further complicates an already complex situation," ManpowerGroup India Group Managing Director A G Rao said. Rao further added  cyber-security  remains a pain point for most organisations. Recent high profile security breaches have moved information security from a hidden corner of the IT function to a topic of strategic importance to both business and society. The Experis' survey noted cy...

Daredevil Season 2 Trailer Perfectly Sets Up The Punisher

With the release of Daredevil Season 2 just over a month away, Netflix dropped a cinematic-length trailer for the upcoming series on Monday night. It introduces Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) as Frank Castle, a man without a family who is hell bent on giving violent criminals a dose of their own medicine, but with "military precision". Known as The Punisher in the comics, Castle is more of an anti-hero than a villain and represents a pushed-over-the-edge version of Daredevil. Bernthal states as much in the trailer when he says: "We know you're one bad day away from being me." Season 1 dealt with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) - lawyer by day and vigilante by night - coming into his own. And while the show was called Daredevil, Murdock spent most of the first season known as the Man in the Mask, courtesy of a black cloth he used over his eyes (oh, he's blind anyway) to protect his identity. He fought off the growing presence of the Kingpin, or Wilson Fisk, a ...

New type of 2D semiconductor to make computers faster, consume less power

Engineers at the University of Utah have discovered a new kind of 2D semiconducting material for electronics. This could lead to much faster computers and smartphones while consuming less power. The semiconductor, made of tin and oxygen elements, is a layer of 2D material that is only one atom thick. It allows electrical charges to move through it much faster than conventional 3D materials such as silicon. The material could potentially be used in transistors in electronic devises including, computer processors and graphic processors in desktop computers and mobile devices. This semiconducting material could lead to computers and smartphones that are more than 100 times faster than regular devices, according to the researchers. The material was discovered by a team led by University of Utah materials science and engineering associate professor: Ashutosh Tiwari .
