In Pics: Xiaomi Mi 5 Design, Specifications And More

The launch date of the Xiaomi Mi 5 is not very far. The device is slated for a 24th February launch at the upcoming 2016 Mobile World Congress (MWC). We had shared its rumoured specifications with you few days ago, but if you can't wait till the official launch to know what Mi 5 would actually look like, then we have you covered.

Mi 5 will sport a new design that will be different from the predecessors. We are hoping to see a dash of metal and glass in the new one—something similar to what Redmi Note 3 had.

Mi 5 will come with a 1,080p panel, which should boast of 3D touch but we are not sure. Unfortunately, the screen size is still a mystery. We are expecting a 5.5-inch screen.

A Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 530 GPU is the least that you will get. For storage, users might get an option to choose between 16/64/128GB, which may or may not be expandable. It should come running on Android Marshmallow 6.0 out of the box with an updated MIUI 7 skin on top.

At a time when every new phone has USB type-C connector, how can Xiaomi be left behind. Mi 5 will have Type C connector and a 3,500 mAh battery.

Mi 5 is expected to come with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor housed on the home button—just below the display.

Mi 5 will not dishearten imaging enthusiasts as it is rumoured to be carrying a 16MP Sony sensor with dual LED setup on the rear and a 13MP camera on the front. Here are some sample shots that Mi’s Global VP, Hugo Barra had shared.

Explained: Camera Improvements in the New HTC 10

With the HTC 10, the Taiwanese company is promising to undo the past wrongs in the cameras of its previous flagship phones. The camera has long a weak point in HTC devices. At first, HTC sacrificed image resolution in the M8 and made the size of individual pixels larger to capture more light (what HTC called Ultrapixel). But the resulting 4 megapixel images were often fuzzy, especially when cropped or enlarged. To fix the issue, in its next flagship - the M9 - HTC went with smaller individual pixels in a 20-megapixel camera last year, but it still underperformed in extreme situations, such as indoors and close-ups. In the HTC 10, the company attempts to strike a balance with larger individual pixels (1.55µm), but not as large as before and a 12 megapixel sensor in its camera coupled with a ƒ/1.8 lens. HTC accepts that in the imaging performance in the M9 was not up to the kind of spec of what they really like to see in a flagship. HTC is giving a slight boost to the selfi...
